Nice species close to home: in the "Zuilespolder" (part of "Sliedrechtse Biesbosch") were a Zitting cisticola and a large group of cattle egrets (up to 30) seen.
Good weather for a nice bike ride, so I went out to find them. The cattle egrets did not show up at first attempt, so tried my luck (and tested my patience) at the location wher the Zitting cisticola has been seen. It quickly announced his prescense while calling, and showed up as a tiny dot in the sky. A proof picture is attached, an extreme crop but still unmistakable. While I was still watching the Zitting cisticola, a group of cattle egrets showed up: about 11 birds came flying in and landed between the cows. Quickly I cycled over, and was able to capture the arrival of some other birds. The group of cows came closer and closer, and the cattle egrets stayed nicely between them. Beautiful to see, and therefore also great capabilities to capture. Even one single bird in beautiful summer plumage, fantastic!
Also the 'ordinary' species were not lacking, such as the blackbird. Some unusual dinner: eating a frog. But why not, a nice change from worms and insects...
